Doris told the story of her grandparents (Anita's parents) being very wealthy and living in Yugoslavia. Apparently, her grandfather was highly regarded in the community and was considered to be a very fair man. On the night before the Communists swept into power, he was tipped off. Under cover of darkness, he gathered his staff together, gave each of them individually, priceless Persian carpets and other treasures, and then took his family away.  The ship on which they were escaping was sunk and they were rescued, but without their identification documents. At that time, the only countries in the world that would accept them without identification were in South America. Anita and her mother ended up in Bolivia. I don't recall Doris ever saying what became of her grandfather.
