Story & photos :

The local Scouts provided a picket at the gate overnight to prevent further losses. Work continued today. The walls, which at their highest point are over 4 metres high, have been cleaned & the mould removed. The floor around the walls has been scrubbed. The kitchen floor has been stripped, ready for tiling. The shower alcove has been ordered from a local tradesman. Floor & wall materials have been purchased & collected. The tank has been removed  & the stand dismantled, ready to be rebuilt tomorrow.

The cat & the dog are still around. The grass on which about half of the tents are pitched, has been whipper snipped, which should cut down on the incidence of grass fleas out there, which is good, because my lower legs are a mass of bites. And the septic system overloaded, which just proves that we are all very healthy.

The RDO team went out to Sabo Island. Yelena is now hobbling around on crutches that we acquired from a place that sounds like RAMSI. The team has now officially adopted the name "SAMSI", the Scouts Australia Mayhem in the Solomon Islands.

In 8 days, we have taken about 2500 photos & uploaded approx 120 to the website. The photo of the group taken yesterday in the tent entrance (when I find it) appeared on page 2 of today's Solomon Star newspaper. Congratulations to Lesley Farquharson for the neatest correct entry to the challenge. You win the chicken. However you still have to kill it & pluck it. Or would you prefer lobster at SBD$40 each?

Speaking of food, we now have a new delicacy for dessert, called Sloppy Bob. It's thick custard mixed in with liquid chocolate mousse.

Photos & movies will be uploaded today as time permits. The water fight was one of "pass it on", with the ultimate object of getting the whole patrol wet.

STOP PRESS: The Scouts caught someone coming over the fence last night.
