Today is Canada Day.
This report comes
to you from Brisbane Airport, via one of the wonders of modern technology, the
wireless network.
The weather: Don't know what it's like, because we're not there yet. But it's nice &
warm in Brisbane.
To arrange a
temporary internet connection in Honiara: Send an e-mail message to
Solomon Telekom, asking for an account to be set up & can you use my
credit card. Reply - you need to fill in the forms. Send - OK,
please fax me the forms. Forms arrive via the fax. Consist of one
for setting up an entire telephone service, but has room to include the credit card details. The other for setting up an internet account.
OK, fill in the forms, go into ACT Scouts office & send the fax back.
Follow up via e-mail advising that fax has been sent & asking if they can
take the deposit and the setup fee from the credit card. Reply - no,
can't do that, have to send the money to our account. Fortunately both
theirs & mine are Westpac. So, send the money via online banking.
Receive a phone call from a foreign sounding person, asking if I really did
want to send money to their account. With just a few hours to go,
receive an e-mail reply with details of the new account. At least that
bit worked.
Sophie fell asleep,
fell of the seat, landed on her face & bent her glasses. If that's the worst we have to
report, we're doing OK!
Thanks to all of
our supporters, for your donations of time & money and to all those who
came out to send us off.
